No. People are reading more. It's just that they do their reading at their computer. The web is, and always will be, primarily text driven. Why? Because no other medium allows the individual so much control over duration.

If I'm interested in specific information, I don't want to have to watch or listen to a media file to see if the information is contained therein. I want to skim headings. I want to skip paragraphs.

Essentially, I want to read at my pace. And that's what text offers. Control.

I confess, I am a magazine-addict. Despite the fact that I spend most of my waking hours in front of a computer screen, I still take the time out to read magazines. I don't know what it is about them that is so appealing to me -- the satin pages, the pretty pictures... Perhaps it is that they are more tangible in print than they are on screen. And most of the contents are not fully available on the web!
