A new edition of Writing for the Web

Yesterday I met with my editor at Self-Counsel Books and agreed to do new editions of my books Writing for the Web and Writing Science Fiction and Fantasy. The Web book is going to need the most revision—in the six years since the last edition, webwriting has changed beyond recognition.

So here's a question for you: What kinds of questions would you like the webwriting book to address—especially issues that have arisen in the last couple of years?

Hi Crawford,
Two burning issues for me:
1. How balance the need to prominently feature the keywords that will bring traffic to the site with the need to inform or sell the user once they arrive at the page.
2. How writers can best work with graphic designers, particularly when many graphic designers want to use little or no html on a web page — just large photo images.
Looking forward to the new editions!
Cheers,
Karen

Interesting site. I'm going to place this on my links. i particularly liked the "Ask the English Teacher" section.

I'd like to see information about how to get a paid blogging job. Is it just about continued writing your own blog and hoping someone notices?

Yes, please discuss graphic design. As a web content manager with no graphic skills, this is where most of my questions lie (and I see it's come up on your blog a time or two).

Also, it might be worthwhile to discuss the difference between content and presentation. With the general standardization of CSS support in browsers, the two are now completely separate, although you'd have a hard time convincing most content creators of it.

What's the timeframe for the new edition? I'm teaching "Writing for the Internet" again this fall.

The third edition will probably be too late for you, Dennis, but we may be able to provide you with online materials. The book will include a CD, and at least some of those links and items should be available to you by the time classes start.
