Today's Globe and Mail has an informative article, "Will Publishers Perish?" on various forms of self-publishing available to frustrated writers.
One of the more interesting aspects of the subject is that veteran writers, not just amateurs, are resorting to print-on-demand publishing. The reason is simple: Despite their experience, they can't get commercial publishers to buy their work any more, or to keep their old titles in print.
