A reader wrote to me yesterday about a perceived lack of pandemic training and preparation among nurses in a local hospital. I'm going to try to follow up on this next week by contacting at least some Canadian health professionals' organizations.
Just visiting their websites to find names and addresses, however, has been less than encouraging. I don't find a whisper about avian flu or pandemics. Searching for "flu" brings nothing but some old policies on whether nurses should have the right to refuse a routine flu shot.
If anyone is aware of organizations that really are tackling this issue—nurses' unions, medical associations, and so on—please let me know.
