With people like Mike Leavitt talking up a storm, I figured the US official pandemic flu site would be full of fresh links to stories like Leavitt on "Meet the Press" (see below for the transcript).
Instead, it's a cobweb site: the "News" section has nothing newer than November 8. No press conferences newer than November 2. No one's made a speech worth linking to since Bush himself on November 1. And the newest testimony, Julie Gerberding's, was given to the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on November 9.
In pandemic planning, as in politics, a week is an eternity. What happened last Friday is a nostalgia item; what happened on November 9 is of purely antiquarian interest.
Any 16-year-old blogger could bring the site to life and give anxious Americans a place to learn what's new on a crucial topic. At the moment, the only reason to visit would be to leave a nice little bouquet by the headstone.
