Hard on the heels of Turkish accusations, Syria asks for UN help and promises to tighten surveillance on its Turkish border. The Syrians have also culled birds near that border...just a precaution, they say.
The political implications of the Turks' complaints could be significant. No government likes to lose face, and repressive governments like it least of all. It costs them too much legitimacy (a scarce commodity for them at the best of times), and that could lead to their abrupt replacement by the army or some political faction.
