The Indonesia National Committee for Avian Influenza Control usually just reports belatedly on human cases and poultry outbreaks. But here's a report clearly designed just to make the government look good: Villagers take their questions to the top in Bali. It has to do with a video conference in which an 11-year-old in Bali talked with the head of KOMNAS FBPI. Excerpt:
When Maya took the microphone, she said: “I don’t want to ask you a question, I just a have a request. I am asking for your help to build a hand washing facility in every class in my school.”
To her surprise, Minister Bakrie had an immediate response: “Just write a letter to the provincial secretary and I will give hand washing facilities for your class rooms,” he said.
Maya was surprised and thrilled - so was her village head and others gathered for the live video conference, who cheered and through up their hands just like a goal had just been scored a world-cup soccer game. There was applause in the Nusa Dua conference room too.
