Another B2B outbreak in central Vietnam
Via Thanh Nien Daily: Bird flu hit central province.
An outbreak of bird flu is sweeping through a ward in Tam Ky Town in the central province of Quang Nam, forcing authorities to cull a further 100 chickens.
In the face of the epidemic in Truong Xuan Ward, the director of the province’s Agricultural and Rural Development Department, Nguyen Thanh Quang, held an emergency meeting with local animal health authorities to discuss measures to contain the disease.
Later, authorities seized 200 fowls lacking vaccination and quarantine certificates.
They had earlier destroyed 7,000 eggs and 1,250 ducks after first discovering signs of the H5N1 virus that causes the disease.
Compared to the enormous culls in West Bengal and South Korea, this sounds almost trivial. Yet the Vietnamese seem ready to report even minor outbreaks, presumably among backyard fowls and small poultry operations.
