South Korea: "It's OK to eat chicken" Bangladesh: "It's too expensive"

Via Dong-A Ilbo: "It's OK to eat chicken."

The representatives of poultry farmers' associations, including the Korea Poultry Association and the Korea Duck Association, hold a demonstration against the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in relation to the bird flu crisis in Nokbeon-dong, northern Seoul.

About 600 farmers who took part in the demonstration appealed to citizens to expand consumption as they eat eggs and duck meat, after having a memorial ceremony for slaughtered poultry.

Meanwhile, The Daily Star of Bangladesh reports that culling has raised the price of chicken and eggs. Excerpt:

Wholesalers of the wholesale egg market at Tejgaon Railway Station blamed poor supply for the price spiral of eggs. They said the price of eggs has been rising steadily for the last one month.

Replying to a query, they said the supply of eggs remains poor following the culling of thousands of birds during the outbreak of bird flu in the country. Besides, the poultry farms, affected by bird flu, are yet to recover the losses, they added.

The poultry traders also showed the same reasons behind the price hike of chicken.

The price of battery chicken rose by Tk 10-15 per kg in the retail market. Battery chickens were sold for Tk 120-135 per kg yesterday while it was sold at Tk 110-120 a kg a few days back.
