Thanks to the reader who sent this translation of a report from Kompas, September 8, page 12. I can't find the original article in Bahasa Indonesia, but this seems like a reasonable translation:
The Superpower Conspiracy is RealBefore, superpowers conspiracy with global organization is merely an accusation. Apparently, now, the conspiracy is there, and it makes poor and developing country, even human race, suffer.
At least, that is what the Minister of Health, Siti Fadilah Supari claimed when she told her story on struggling against the WHO unfair system conspiracy, in a discussion forum “Bravery and Openness to Get A Better World” in the Paramadina University, Jakarta, on Thursday.
Indonesia has been independent for 63 years, and has responsibility to provide prosperity to its people. Additionally, the country is responsible to put a good image on the eyes of the world. “We could test ourselves, whether we are already independent, physically or non-physically, or actually we are enduring exploitation,” said Fadilah.
At least that is what happens when Indonesia is attacked by bird flu virus. This is a blessing in disguise for Indonesia.
”I sensed unfairness, and this forced me to protest WHO for its unfair system. All this time, we had been asked to send our virus to WHO, but in the end, they commercialise it. When they were asked how the virus got to Los Alamos, the place where they make atomic bomb?” She expressed.
Indonesia’s bird flu virus, according to Fadilah, is the most severe strain in the world.
”Why are we obliged to send it to WHO, what do we get? Then, we were offered the vaccine. If we cannot afford it, they will lend us money. The debt we have to pay in the future. This is the unfair global system that I am fighting,” she added.
That is why, Fadilah stated that she stopped the virus sending to WHO since January 2007. Then, series of meeting happened, starting with the first, on February 10, 2007 with WHO representatives. It ended with a deadlock.
Indonesia, then proposed resolution 60 against USA, and Indonesia won that with the support of 122 Non-Alignment countries. Recently, the resolution is backed up by Russia, UK, Germany and Australia.
”This is a form of conspiracy in an international mechanism that creates unfairness,” she emphasized.
Mastering technology, having the capital and capacity, it is considered right to mug our natural resources. “This is why poor countries get poorer, including the intellectual property rights, that does not respect natural resources,” said she.
Fadilah declared that this is the time for the world to change. USA changes, and the hegemony of globalization which is full of exploitation must be changed to a more harmonized globalization.
“As long as there is hegemony, strong countries could take over weak countries. We will always have to face a corrupt world,” said Fadilah.
Update: CIDRAP has a good report on Supari as well.
