When I was a kid in Mexico, Joe Locascio, a Sicilian friend of the family, came to visit us from Los Angeles. He couldn't speak a word of Spanish. But he could speak his Sicilian dialect to Mexicans, they could speak Spanish to him, and everyone understood everyone. I thought Joe was cool.
The Italian-language media, alas, are beyond me and my poor grasp of Spanish. Here's a report from Corriere della Sera: Influenza A, Fazio e il caso Napoli «Colpa della promiscuità e del clima».
All I can get from this report is that 24 Italians have died from H1N1. The health minister Ferruccio Fazio blames the Neapolitan cases on "promiscuity and the climate." I can guess that "promiscuity" means poor hygiene, but it's only a guess. If anyone can direct me to a good Italian/English news site or blog, I'll be grateful.
