Via Philippine Information Agency, a report datelined Tagbilaran City: Blood bank bleeds badly. Excerpt:
The most common blood source for medical transfusions here may not sustain serving Boholano patients as it is "bleeding badly".
As this happens at a time when blood transfusions are direly needed by patients in dengue cases, the under supply has alarmed the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) authorities and the relatives of patients themselves.
According to PNRC Administrator Nenita Briones, the PNRC blood bank stores 150 blood units of 450 cc packets at a given time, but in the duration of a month, more than 200 units have been withdrawn to respond to emergency transfusions.
Pressing the need to immediately add more stock to the bank with ample blood, Administrator Briones, PNRC Board member Romeo Teruel and Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital doctor Annabella Ancog urges individuals and groups to donate blood and save lives.
