Health officials in Denmark and Sweden reported Friday a total of 32 confirmed cases of people afflicted by the EHEC bacterium, all of whom had previously been travelling in Germany.
Officials in Copenhagen said that additionally, the EHEC bacterium was found in Spanish cucumbers in two supermarkets.
Merchants were ordered to immediately withdraw all their products imported from the producers involved.
Swedish health officials advised people currently travelling in Germany to take special precautions to avoid contacting the virulent bug, a new sub-strain of E. coli, enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli, or EHEC.
