Via the Daily Trust: Cholera kills 2 in Ekiti. Excerpt:
Two persons have died following the outbreak of cholera in Igbara Odo community, Ekiti South-West Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The disease was said to have affected three persons including a pregnant woman, a boy and an elderly woman. It was gathered that the government deployed officials from the state’s Ministry of Health to the community to begin sensitisation programme on how the people could maintain healthy environments.
It was further gathered that the state’s Commissioner for Health, Professor Olusola Fasubaa, visited the community with a view to sensitising the people on the need to maintain a clean environment and healthy routine.
“There has been confirmed diarrhoea and vomiting cases in Igbara-Odo community in Ekiti South-West Local Government Area of the state, the cause of which has not been confirmed in the laboratory”, he said.
Also speaking on the matter, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Funminiyi Afuye, said the first case was brought to the notice of the state government on July 14, but that it has not been confirmed in the laboratory.
“We are however suspecting a cholera outbreak in that community. The general public is therefore urged to be alert and to take simple hygienic measure of hand washing before meals, and to be cautious of what and where to eat and drink,” he said.
