Santony Díaz, his wife Carmen Vásquez, and their three children, who were admitted to the hospital in Tamboril, believe that rats, cockroaches, mosquitos, and water problems are the causes of the situation, which has residents anxious and fearful.
The story goes on to quote a Public Health epidemiologist who says most patients can be sent home with a treatment that is 97 per cent effective. He also says: "We want to make it clear that we have diagnosed no one with cholera. We are attending to many patients with symptoms of cholera, and we're doing what needs to be done in such cases."
