Más de 100 casos de cólera han sido localizados en el poblado de San Luis, en la oriental provincia de Santiago de Cuba, confirmó Maylín Isaac Sánchez, licenciada en enfermería y activista de Derechos Humanos.

Según Isaac, “el poblado se encuentra en alerta roja por el aumento significativo de enfermos de cólera, que ya sobrepasan los 113 casos".

“Muchos pacientes con síntomas de la enfermedad en San Luis se niegan a ser ingresados por las malas condiciones y la falta de higiene que tiene el Hospital; además del hacinamiento que hay en él”, explicó Iriades Hernández Aguilera, residente en el reparto Mármol de Santiago de Cuba.
"Many patients with cholera symptoms in San Luis are refusing to be admitted to the hospital because of the bad conditions and the lack of hygiene, not to mention the overcrowding," said Iriades Hernández Aguilera, resident in the Marmol neighbourhood of San Luis.

Autoridades de Salud Publica informaron el mes pasado que el brote de cólera en la isla había desaparecido. Sin embargo, han sido detectados focos del virus también en el reparto Las Mangas, de Bayamo; Bahía Honda en Pinar del Río y Regla en La Habana.
Authorities in Public Health reported last month that the outbreak of cholera on the island had disappeared. Nevertheless, centres of infection have been detected in Bayamo's Las Mangas neighbourhood; Bahía Honda in Pinar del Río; and Regla in Havana.
