7.7 earthquake hits Haida Gwaii Region. Excerpt:
An earthquake registered at 7.7 has occurred in the Haida Gwaii Region, Earthquakes Canada reports.
The quake was felt across much of north-central BC, including Haida Gwaii, Prince Rupert, Quesnel, and Houston but there have been no reports of damage at this time.
According to the Geological Survey of Canada, the quake struck just after 8:00 p.m. local time, the epicentre 17 kilometres below ground about 200 kilometres south-southwest of Prince Rupert.
Several aftershocks have been reported, including one 5.8 magnitude tremor.
