Roberto de Jesús Guerra Pérez, periodista independiente y director del Centro de Información Hablemos Press, fue citado por la Seguridad del Estado para que se presentara, en la mañana del sábado, en la 4ta. Unidad de la policía, ubicada en el municipio Cerro.
Roberto de Jesús Guerra Pérez, independent journalist and director of Hablemos Press Information Centre, was ordered by State Security to present himself on Saturday morning to the Fourth Unit of the police, located in Cerro municipality.
Según declaraciones de Guerra Pérez, el agente “Junior”, quien tuvo a su cargo el interrogatorio, le informó que el motivo de la citación estaba relacionado con noticias que él había publicado, sobre los daños que había ocasionado la tormenta tropical Sandy.
According to a statement by Guerra Pérez, the agent known as Junior, who took charge of his interrogation, told him that the motive of the order was related to news he had published on the damage caused by the tropical storm Sandy.
El agente de la policía política, le comunicó la preocupación de las autoridades por el efecto que esas noticias pueden tener en la población, pues este tipo de revelaciones pone en tela de juicio la capacidad del gobierno para enfrentar los desastres naturales.
The agent of the political police explained to him the concern of the authorities over the effect of these reports on the public, since these kinds of revelations call into the question the capacity of the government to deal with natural disasters.
El agente, pidió al periodista -con inusual amabilidad- que fuera más tolerante con la ineficiencia de las autoridades, porque el país estaba viviendo tiempos muy difíciles, y la escasez de recursos ponía freno al buen desarrollo de las soluciones.

La prensa oficial informa lo que al estado le conviene. Once personas, entre ellas un bebé de cuatro meses, fallecieron como resultado del paso del huracán Sandy por la Isla. La mayoría de los casos, debido a derrumbes y caída de árboles, informó la televisión cubana, el jueves.
The official media reports what is convenient for the state. Eleven persons, among them a four-month-old baby, died as a result of the passage of hurricane Sandy across the island. The majority of the cases were owing to building collapses and falling trees, Cuban TV reported on Thursday.

Nine of the dead lived in the province of Santiago de Cuba, and two in Guantánamo, said National Civil Defence in a note. These deaths have not been independently confirmed, and it is believed there are more.The report goes on to describe some of the damage and incidents of looting and gunfire.
I find it fascinating that the authorities are in effect begging a major dissident journalist not to be so hard on them.
