Man ill with drug-resistant infection.
The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a confirmed case of invasive community-associated Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA), a drug-resistant bacterium, involving a 49-year-old man living in Wan Chai.
He was admitted to Queen Mary Hospital on November 25, and was later diagnosed as having pneumonia. He tested positive for CA-MRSA, but is now stable.
MRSA is a type of Staphylococcus aureus that is resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics. It is a common infection worldwide.
