I've just received another email from Sonny Krishnan, the WHO communications officer in Phnom Penh. He's sent the link to the latest government-WHO joint news release on the fourth and fifth H5N1 cases. I'm of course extremely grateful for his help and look forward to passing on more news as WHO makes it available.
Sonny also told me:
The cases are not scattered, as they all are in the southern corridor of Cambodia. The village dirt roads from Takeo, Kampong Speu and Kampot are connected through the districts.
All cases came into contact with poultry and our epidemiologists are working with the Ministry of Health's Rapid Response Teams in the villages where the cases came from in carrying out further investigations. The provincial-level animal health workers are also in the villages testing poultry for the H5N1 virus. About 4,000 chickens and ducks have been culled in Takeo province.
