The Kathmandu Post has a December 28 dateline but was published on December 29:
Kathmandu declared bird flu-free. The whole article:
After Successful operations at two chicken farms in Ramkot and Sitapaila, authorities on Friday declared Kathmandu bird flu-free.
A bird flu outbreak at Ramkot and Sitapaila VDCs was confirmed by the Central Veterinary Laboratory on Wednesday. Over 2,000 chickens were slaughtered at Mahadol on Wednesday after bird flu (H5N1) virus spread from a hatchery at Ramkot-6 to Sitapaila-1.
Earlier, Surendra Man Basnet, owner of a poultry farm in Ramkot, had destroyed his chickens on his own, after the outbreak was confirmed.
“Both the infected farms are now clean,” said Dr Narayan Prasad Ghimire of the DoLS. “Samples collected from other areas in the Capital showed negative results.”
I hope it's true, but I don't believe it. Even the Vietnamese wait three weeks before declaring a region H5N1-free—and then they're often hit with a new outbreak a week or two after that.
