At least 30 children have died due to measles outbreak only in Larkana but Secretary Health Aftab Ahmed Khatri could not confirm the details about the death toll in Sindh.
Seven hundred and thirty-one to 2,000 children have been identified as suffering from measles and other deadly diseases only in Larkana. This also includes number of children admitted to the CMC Children Hospitals. The death toll has reached 200 in province.
According to the reliable sources, 30 deaths of children have occurred only in Larkana district in UC Phul Mahar and Larkana surroundings. This fatal disease has spread havoc in different flood affected areas of Kamber-Shahdadkot, Kashmore-Kandhkot, Jacobabad and other parts of province. According to WHO reports 210 children had died and 502 cases declared and registered during 2012, while total 7274 cases are under investigation, told WHO details.
According to the reports, within 24 hours more than 10 children have died in Larkana district including 10-month-old Ameer, son of Taj Muhammad Abro, a resident of Village Arija, died in CMC Children Hospital due to measles. One-year-old Momal Jeho and Ali Raza Narejo, resident of Village Jeho near Naudero Town also died of measles and several others, including 20 more children in surrounding districts and towns have been admitted to CMC Children Hospital Larkana in a serious conditions.
Despite of millions of funds Health Department Sindh website has not been updated and there is no any information or data about the deaths of children in Sindh.
It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that Secretary Health Department Aftab Ahmed Khatri and a large number of health teams visited the Kamber-Shahdadkot, Larkana and other districts but failed to provide accurate information to this scribe on Tuesday.
On a question about the confirmed deaths of children in Larkana by a journalist, Secretary Health and Executive District Officer and other concerned could not provide facts about the deaths and avoided media men on the occasion.
