The Daily Star:
Bird flu affected chickens culled in Rajbari. Excerpt:
More than 1800 chickens were culled and 400 eggs destroyed following detection of bird flu virus at a poultry farm in Sadar upazila of Rajbari district on Sunday night.
The fowls were culled and eggs destroyed at Seraj Poultry Farm at Kalyianpur village due to an outbreak of avian flu, said Haripada Biswas, district livestock officer.
Farm owner Serajul Islam said, he found several chickens dead at the farm on Friday and informed it to the livestock officer.
The officer sent the dead chickens to Manikganj for laboratory test on Saturday. The following day, the laboratory confirmed the detection of bird flu.
Follow the link to the Wikipedia entry about Rajbari, and you'll see it's quite distant from Purnia in the Indian state of
Bihar, which is currently dealing with its own B2B H5N1 outbreak. Still, I expect the Indians and Bangladeshis will enjoy an exchange of recriminations over who is to blame. They usually do.
