Due to the reports in the international medias on the current situation in Cambodia our Foundation is getting much less donations than in 2012 at the same time.
It is a difficult time in Cambodia. But still the huge numbers of severely sick children are being brought to our Hospitals.
On Sunday, September 15th, 620 sick children were treated in the outpatient stations. 213 severely sick children we had to admit for hospitalization.
On Monday, September 16th, 3359 sick children were treated in the outpatient stations and 405 severely sick children had to be admitted for hospitalization. 66 surgical operations, 55 deliveries were done.
All treatment is free for all, all medicines and drugs are free for all. Most families are poor. Kantha Bopha is treating 85% of all Cambodian children, in the case of Dengue Fever 92%! Still our hospitals are showing worldwide the best correlation costs / healing rate. But every day we spend 120 000.00 USD. Without donations and contributions to Kantha Bopha all these sick children are lost. This really is an appalling situation, especially for the hospital that's dealing virtually single-handed with the world's worst outbreak of H5N1 (and note he doesn't even mention it).
You would think WHO could offer at least some support, but the real money should be coming from the countries with the most to lose from H5N1: China, Vietnam, and Indonesia spring to mind.
For those countries, as well as Europe, the US and Canada, supporting Kantha Bopha would be so politically smart as to seem like a no-brainer.
