Via the American-Statesman in Austin: Number of confirmed flu cases in Central Texas continues to climb. Excerpt:
Health officials are urging people 6 months and older to get their flu shots, as an H1N1 strain that has already killed at least one person in the Austin area is spreading early this year.
Central Texas’s biggest hospital systems saw the number of confirmed cases of the flu more than double in one week’s time and now Austin Regional Clinic, which has offices across the Austin area, reports they’ve also seen a spike in flu patients.
The clinics ran more than 2,400 flu tests during the week of Dec. 15 — nearly double the number of tests run the week before — and about 40 percent came back positive, officials said.
“Our clinics remain very busy!” spokeswoman Lynda Shanblum said in an email.
