Further measles cases in New Zealand linked to a dance festival in Sydney have been reported, the Ministry of Health has confirmed today.
Yesterday the first case of measles in Auckland for 18 months was confirmed by the ministry
As well the Auckland case, there are also nine confirmed cases and one case under investigation in Turangi and Taupo.
Acting deputy director of public health at the Ministry of Health, Dr Harriette Carr, says public health authorities are working to identify people who may have been in contact with those affected.
"Measles can be a serious disease and is easily spread to someone who is not immunised, or who has not been exposed to measles previously."
Dr Carr says the Auckland case, as well as three of the nine cases in Turangi and Taupo had attended the 2013 World Supremacy Battleground hip hop competition in Sydney in December. No one has been hospitalised but the infected people are being kept in isolation at home, says Dr Carr.
Public health workers are also following up suspected cases in Huntly and Hamilton.
