Via ABC News: Bushfires: Homes gutted as fires burn across Victoria and South Australia. Excerpt:
Dozens of bushfires have burnt across large swathes of Victoria, destroying homes and farms, on a day of the worst fire conditions since Black Saturday.
There has been no official confirmation of the number of properties lost but ABC reporters saw homes razed in the Gisborne, Craigieburn and Warrandyte areas.
High temperatures and strong winds fanned the intense and fast-moving blazes, as a weather change swept across the state bringing wind gusts up to 100 kilometres per hour.
Victorian Premier Denis Napthine described the fire conditions as the "worst" since the deadly Black Saturday fires five years ago.
By mid-afternoon, there were 70 fires burning, with activity centred around the Latrobe Valley, South Gippsland and the state's far east.
At times there were up to 16 concurrent emergency warnings issued for fires burning across the state.
