MSPP has posted new cholera statistics on its Documentation Centre page. The previous announcement listed 8,539 deaths as of January 14; so in just under three weeks, only 8 more deaths have been recorded. The general numbers:
Total cases: 698,838 (in a national population of about 10 million)
Hospitalized cases: 390,874
Deaths: 8,547 since October 2010
We are now well into the fourth year of cholera in Haiti. The disease appears to be endemic and entrenched. The UN continues to discredit itself by refusing responsibility for an entirely preventable public-health catastrophe. Nepal's cholera has spread from Haiti to the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Cuba, and Mexico. So it goes.
