Via The Poultry Site: OIE Reports H5N1 Bird Flu Outbreaks in Cambodia.
The Cambodian veterinary authorities have reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 in Kampong Speu province affecting backyard poultry as well as in Kandal, affecting duck flocks in two households.
The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 1 on Wednesday, 26 February. After receiving the report from farmers, the district and provincial veterinarians went to the two bird flu-affected regions.
They collected some samples from chicken and ducks and send them to the National Veterinary Research Institute (NaVRI). Results were positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1.
According to the report, a total of 700 birds showed signs of susceptibility, out of which 410 cases and deaths were reported. The remaining 250 birds were destroyed.
The source of the outbreaks remains inconclusive.
