Via The News International: NWA reports four new polio cases in a single day.
While the ‘Sehat Ka Insaf’ successfully continues to vaccinate hundreds and thousands of children in Peshawar against nine diseases that includes polio eradication, the troubled region of North Waziristan Agency (NWA) has reported four new polio cases in a single day taking the total number of polio cases during the current year to nine.
All the nine polio cases reported during the current year are from North Waziristan and all the children have not received a single dose of the oral polio vaccine.
According to the official data sheet of the Fata's Health Department, the laboratory has confirmed four new type-1 wild polio cases all from North Waziristan Agency in Fata.
This brings the total number of polio cases to nine in 2014; all from North Waziristan Agency (four each from tehsils Mir Ali and Miranshah).
It is worth mentioning that these nine polio cases are the only polio cases globally in 2014 have come from North Waziristan and all of them never received polio vaccine. All the paralysed children are less than two years of age. North Waziristan and South Waziristan are deprived of vaccination for more than one and a half year (since June 2012) due to ban on polio drops by the local Taliban led by Hafiz Gul Bahadur, which is separate than the mainstream Tehtik-e-Taliban Pakistan or the TTP, in North Waziristan.
The first polio case, Khateer, son of Said Manullah, is a 23 months old male child having onset of paralysis on January 16, 2014, resident of area Naurak, village Mat Khel, tehsil Mir Ali.
Sameya, daughter of Ataullah, is the second polio case and is a 12 months old female child having onset of paralysis on January10, 2014, resident of area Hamzoni-2, village Kati Kala, tehsil Miran Shah.

The fourth polio case is Umar Gul, son of Bobrai, is a 16 month old, he is the resident of Maizar village in Miranshah, North Waziristan. The child didn’t receive any doze.
Pakistan has reported a total of 93 polio cases during the previous year out of which 65 polio cases belong to FATA whereas 41 of these 65 polio cases belong to North Waziristan.
According to WHO, the geno-typing results of over 85 polio cases during the last year prove that the active poliovirus strain type 1 circulating in Peshawar is spreading the cases to other parts of the country including North Waziristan.
