The fire is still burning, and La Tercera continues to liveblog it: Minuto a minuto: Gobierno solicitará ayuda aérea a Argentina para cubrir 'zonas desprotegidas'. [Minute by minute: Government will ask Argentina for air support to cover "unprotected zones."] I can't format the posts properly, but here's a summary of what transpired over about 30 minutes this morning between 10:30 and 11:00:
The president says "We're facing a major air operation to deal with this fire." The Medical Legal Service says three of the 11 fatalities from the fire have been identified by genetic testing. The twelfth death was a heart attack in a person who saw his destroyed home. The local head of Onemi is calling on everyone to evacuate from the fire zone. He says the fire is still uncontrolled. The origin of the fire is still unknown, and the Onemi chief is asking for information from the public.
The government spokesman says Argentina has been asked to send planes to cover unprotected zones, since 21 planes are dedicated to fighting the fire.
Meanwhile, temperatures remain high and Santiago as well as Valparaíso is on fire alert.
