Seasonal influenza in Europe
Low intensity was reported by all 27 reporting countries and influenza activity is declining.
Middle East respiratory syndrome – coronavirus (MERS CoV)
There have been 163 new cases of MERS-CoV since the beginning of April 2014, 43 of whom were healthcare workers. Of the 163 cases, 133 were reported by Saudi Arabia, 25 by the United Arab Emirates, two by Jordan and one case each from Greece, Malaysia and the Philippines. ECDC published an update to its rapid risk assessment on 25 April 2014.
Ebola virus disease – West Africa
Eighteen new cases of Ebola virus disease were reported during the past week by Guinea and Liberia. ECDC published a rapid risk assessment on 9 April 2014, the conclusions of which are still valid.
