Via Guineeinformation.fr: (Audio) Guinea-Testimony of a physician cured Ebola: This is a 10-minute audio in French. An excerpt from the transcript:
What I understood as a doctor in the case of Ebola? Is that when there is food, when there rehydration, when there is an antibiotic cover, the body tends to fight, to fight against the disease. This is what I understood as a doctor since my isolation until my release. That's how I came to the center. I really thank God with the help of Médecins Sans Frontières, WHO. Really, I never cease to thank. I was also the first person to see the outside after my isolation, to be released. That day, I was like a hero, that's why they call me the service, the hero. Thank you.
When the Ebola case erupted in Guinea, all the doctors were afraid, personally, I thought that the disease came against doctors, it had a lot of havoc, it killed a lot of doctors, and finally all doctors were afraid. When I was told that I had this disease, Ebola, the first thing that came to my mind is, "Is what I'm going to die? Is what I will not die?
Anything that comes into my head, I say yes, it is death. This is my death that I saw. But with treatment, I saw every day that I was improving, and friends also Kissidougou, share and others, called me to cheer me up, they told me "it's okay, it's okay" . But really, deep down, I could not believe it. I thought of my death. This is when I saw the doctors come and bring me support, especially to bring me their support, comfort me, tell me it's okay, I put in mind that it will go. Perhaps fate, impossible is not me. I thought like that.
I continued treatment. Whenever they came, I had almost no symptoms, signs had regressed much I was improving. I started eating. I did three days, I did not go to heaven. I said but it's serious, I did not go to heaven.
But eventually, they gave us soaps, blankets, they distributed Plumpy Nut (energy food); they also gave us drugs. Patients who complained of headache, they were given drugs against it. Patients who were tired and vomiting, which were diarrhea receiving oral rehydration serum parenterally. And also other drugs by the parenteral route, which at least allow them to resist the disease.
Really, without the arrival of MSF and WHO, I said that at the exit and I tell anyone who will listen, we would count the bodies with the computer. It is not a calculator or with fingers. The scale was so. Because really it should be left this case to Guinea, it would really be something else.
So I thank you, and thank infinitely Médecins Sans Frontières and also the World Health Organization WHO. I really thank you very much.
