Via ABS-CBN News: OFWs urged to heed advice on MERS. Excerpt:
Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Middle East were urged yesterday to heed the advice of the Departments of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and Health (DOH) to take precautionary measures against the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus (MERS-CoV).
Vice President Jejomar Binay told OFWs to follow the steps prescribed by the DOH to prevent infection.
“These are easy enough and should go a long way in preventing infection,” Binay said as he urged Filipinos in the Middle East not to panic and confirm any report of MERS-CoV cases with Philippine officials in their areas.
“The World Health Organization (WHO) has not yet declared any MERS-CoV outbreak or epidemic, so there is no cause for panic. The best thing to do is to ask your respective embassies or consulates once rumors circulate,” he said.
