Via Dominican Today: Cuba imports chikungunya cases from Haiti, DR. But the real story is in the last paragraph of this excerpt:
Cuba's Health Ministry confirmed Wednesday the first six cases of chikungunya, of which five are imported from Haiti and one from the Dominican Republic.
The ministry pointed out that the victims were infected by virus-carrying mosquitoes abroad and not in Cuba. All are receiving medical attention and are recovering now.
Dominican health officials said in a recent statement they have detected more than 77,000 suspected cases since the virus reached the country five and half months ago, including 20,000 new suspected cases in the last week alone.
