The Principal Commissioner of Léogâne, Jean-Alex Pierre-Louis, reported that 28 prisoners (23%) out of 123 of the Police Station of Petit-Goâve, are suffering Chikungunya.
Commissioner Pierre-Louis confessing his powerlessness faced this epidemic, spread by mosquitoes that enter cells and spare no one, calls for assistance to health authorities for sick prisoners who require care and medicines, stressing that "Detainees were already taken to Notre-Dame Hospital to receive necessary."
However, Notre-Dame Hospital that receives numerous cases of chikungunya from the city center and communal sections is overwhelmed and is unable to meet the needs of patients and for lack of available doctors and of enough drugs.
Faced with this situation, members of the public demanding the departure of the Medical Director, Dr. Watson Exantus for absence and mismanagement.
