Via Dominican Today: More chikungunya cases reported in U.S. The surprise is in the last paragraph:
Health authorities in North Carolina, Nebraska, Tennessee and Indiana reported their first confirmed chikungunya cases on Friday, while Florida remains with the most number of cases in the United States with 25.
The cases in the U.S. have not been transmitted by local mosquitoes, but rather carried by recent travelers to the Caribbean where the virus is raging, where at least 20 countries and territories have been affected. The Dominican Republic has the largest outbreak of suspected cases.
According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention, health officials are monitoring suspected chikungunya cases in the states of New York, California, Arkansas, Maryland, Connecticut, Nevada, Minnesota, Virginia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
I had no idea so many states have suspected cases.
