Via Awareness Times: Minority Leader warns over Politicizing Ebola. The Google translation:
Sequel to the confirmed Ebola outbreak in the Eastern Region, the Minority Leader of the Main Opposition Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) Hon. Dr. Bernadette Lahai has passionately appealed to all Sierra Leoneans not to politicize the situation. Hon. Dr. Bernadette Lahai made this special appeal at a meeting held in Kenema City on Wednesday 28th May 2014.
Members of Parliament either of the SLPP or the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC), representing the Eastern Region are currently on robust sensitization tour of the deadly Ebola disease in their respective district and constituency in that region.
As a preliminary step, on reaching Kenema, the parliamentary delegation led by the Minority Leader met with the District Health Team for update on the Ebola situation and planned for the way forward. Speaking to our reporter Hon. Dr. Bernadette Lahai disclosed that radio talk shows, constituency outreaches, community and street parades; daily press briefings, distribution of educational materials on Ebola were among the sensitization methods discussed and adopted.
She said, together with the Minister of Health, they have earlier addressed the Paramount Chiefs of the Eastern Region on the Ebola outbreak during the workshop held for the Paramount Chiefs on Maternal and Child Health week in Kenema.
All the MPs together with their Councilors and Ward Development Committee Members are all working tirelessly to educate and sensitize their constituents and subjects on the Ebola virus in that region.
As head of delegation Hon. Dr. Bernadette, used the opportunity to appeal to all not to politicize the Ebola outbreak and called on all to do whatever they can in their own way to help contain the outbreak. These MPs according to her are expected to return to parliament this week to report to the Ministry of Health about the update of their sensitization activities and results.
