I'm awaiting confirmation of a rumour that Dr. Sheikh Umar Khan has died. In the meantime, a report from Awareness Times: As Ebola Kills 184 People in Jawie Chiefdom Kailahun District …Paramount Chief Musa Kallon Says Situation is Now Normal. Excerpt:
Data collated by chiefdom authorities and other stakeholders reveal that at least one hundred and eighty four (184) people have lost their lives in Jawie Chiefdom alone, all related to the Ebola carnage. The chiefdom authorities disclosed that the statistics were collected from towards the end of May to Monday 28th July 2014.
Although Jawei residents are still admitted at the Ebola epicenters in Kailahun, Daru & Kenema City, the situation is normalising due to efforts of brave indigenes led by Paramount Chief Musa Ngoumbu Klah Kallon whose wife died of Ebola Disease.
Speaking to our reporter last evening the Paramount Chief disclosed that some of the victims died at the Ebola Epicenters in Kenema, Kailahun and Daru whilst majority died inside their homes with the fear and misinformation that if they went to hospital, they would be killed with poison injection by medical personnel.
Chief Kallon said the situation is now returning to normalcy as nobody has been reported ill in the last few days. He informed that, the means of protection that prevented majority of the people from having the disease are chlorine in household, contact tracing and zero contact.
He informed that what also saved many people’s lives is early reporting at Ebola Centers where they were well treated by health personnel, got cured and discharged.
It's not clear that these are medically confirmed Ebola cases.
