Via Politico SL News: Sierra Leone’s Ebola doctor “is very stable”.
The Deputy Minister of Health Dr Abu Bakar Fofanah says the country’s lead Ebola doctor who tested positive for the virus “is responding very well to treatment”.
Speaking to Politico on the phone shortly after meeting Dr Shek Umar Khan in Kailahun yesterday afternoon, the minister said he came out of his treatment ward “walking by himself unaided and looked cheerful”.
He said he ate and “looked very stable” and showed signs of recovering from the disease.
In a statement from State House Communications unit issued on Tuesday night, Dr Khan was described by the health minister, Miatta Kargbo as “a national hero” because of his fight against the outbreak which over 100 people have survived.
She said the 39-year-old ” made the ultimate sacrifice by putting his own life on the line to treat and save Sierra Leoneans of the Ebola virus”, adding that she “will do anything and everything in my power to ensure he survives”.
