Via The New Dawn: Several officials fired! Excerpt:
The Executive Mansion has announced the dismissal of a number of unnamed officials currently out of Liberia for failure to return home and join the ongoing Ebola fight in line with a one week ultimatum announced by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf recently.
President Sirleaf recently threatened to dismiss those members of the cabinet and other officials currently abroad if they did not return within a week.
The ongoing Ebola fight poses serious challenge to Liberia’s health sector, and government, assisted by its partners, has been urging private and public efforts in combating the disease.
The death toll across the affected countries in the sub-region has gone beyond 1500 with Liberia being hardest hit.
The President had insisted that all officials out of the country on official or private duties, should return home within a week, or they would be considered abandoning their jobs.
Some officials returned home in obedience to the President’s order ahead of the expiration of the one week ultimatum. But several deputy ministers and directors currently abroad are likely to be caught in this stringent measure by the President.
