The Senegalese Ministry of Health has announced the first imported case of Ebola in Senegal. The affected person is a student from Guinea who was under surveillance in Conakry, following contact with Ebola cases. Contact tracing teams in Guinea notified Senegalese authorities of the student's disappearance on 27 August.
The student had presented for treatment in Dakar on 26 August, was not bleeding at the time, and did not disclose exposure to Ebola. However, following tests, they were placed in isolation in the infectious disease ward of Fann Hospital, Dakar where their condition is said to be "satisfactory". Authorities have already begun tracing of people who may have come into contact with the case.
