Via Awareness Times: Government Hospitals Close Down - Executive Director Health Alert.
Executive Director Health Alert Victor Lansana Koroma in an exclusive interview with this medium at his office at 18 Dundas Street Freetown said he visited 4 District Government hospitals where he met hospitals closed down with no doctor and nurses to attend to patients that visit the hospitals for medical care.
He said the four districts are Portloko Government Hospital, Kambia Government Hospital, Makeni Government Hospital and Tonkolili Government Hospital. He went on to say that no patients are in the hospitals as they are not going to the hospital because they complained to him that the doctors and nurses are not going to work. This he said has caused the people to resort back to most of the quack doctors to seek medical attention within their localities.
Victor Lansana furthered that, when he spoke to the District Hospital Doctor Tom Sesay at the Makeni Government Hospital he told him that most of the nurses and doctors said they did not have enough equipment to do their work and most of them have not got the appropriate training in the fight against the Ebola disease.
Victor Lansana Koroma went on to say, when he visited Portloko Government Hospital there was nothing to write home about as the district recorded 28 cases of Ebola at the time with no doctors and nurses to take blood samples for testing so that they can refer the cases for treatment if found positive.
He said the nurses and doctors could not be found as they themselves are running from the hospitals while patients are coming in to treat themselves from ailments like malaria, typhoid, fever, cold or pregnancy related illnesses or conditions. Just because of the Ebola disease, no other disease is treated thereby leaving people at the risk of dying from other illnesses without attending to them.
