Andre and Qiu Xia will perform at the Apple Hollow Music Fest, 1639 Route 202, Franklin Center, Quebec, at 6:00 pm on July 19.
What a surprise! Qiu Xia and Andre showed up at my retirement party yesterday. I was delighted to see them, and they were kind enough to play some songs . My daughter Anna said it was the high point of the evening, and I agree. I got a camera as a retirement present, and took a couple of snapshots:
And here are some more photos by our friend David Porter:
Qiu Xia and Andre are featured on CBC Radio Two - Concerts on Demand with a performance recorded last October at Dr. Sun Yat-Send Garden. You can listen to it whenever you like!
Thanks to Qiu Xia and Andre for sending me the link to MySpace.com - Silk Road Music.
It's a very slick and colourful site, with access to some of their music, a schedule of upcoming shows, and a wild slide show.

Here's a great video of Qiu Xia, Andre and Jun Rong performing in Yellowknife last July with Strings Across the Sky and the Kole Crook Fiddlers: The East-West Fiddlers. It's about 10 minutes long and a lot of fun!

Via Vancouver 2010, some good news about the Cultural Olympiad 2008: Chinese New Year Celebration. Here's an excerpt about Silk Road Music:
This ever-popular family event features a free concert stage as part of the Chinese New Year celebration in the courtyard adjacent to the Dr Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden.
The stage is a new concept for 2008, focusing on traditional and contemporary concerts of Asian music.
The program is curated by Silk Road Music, a professional ensemble that has been touring since 1991. Their last two CDs have each won a West Coast Music Award, and
Endless was nominated for a Juno Award.Silk Road Music combines traditional techniques, western harmonies and a great
understanding of world folklore. Their exciting live performances bring joy and appreciation to children and adults, transporting them from Occident to Orient and giving a refreshing look at Chinese culture today.
Silk Road Music will perform at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden on Saturday, October 27, at 3:00 pm. The garden is at 578 Carrall, just off Pender.

Joining Qiu Xia and Andre for today’s concert is special guest Jun Rong. After a prestigious career in China, Jun moved to Vancouver where her extraordinary command of the erhu (Chinese violin) has awed her audiences.
