English has many words that sound alike but have very different meanings. When people confuse the meanings of, for example, "flout" and "flaunt," they are also likely to confuse their readers and listeners.
This can be a problem for those learning English as a foreign language. They often have trouble "hearing" particular sounds (just as I have trouble hearing some sounds in Korean!). So they miss an important sound difference that also changes the meaning of the word.
Word choice is "diction," and I spend a lot of time in my classes on "diction demons" that people often have trouble with. So here is a list of some common diction demons, in both PDF and Word.
