One that my dictionary does not list, but that is quite common in elementary school writing is "alot."

Does it continue to show up in College level writing?

Just last week I was telling my students that I have been vainly battling "alot" since 1967. I don't know why it's so popular; it doesn't appear in print the way "alright" too often does.
