This morning, here in Dawson City, my wife and I visited the Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in cultural centre just as a mob of grade 7s from Robert Service School came out of a film in the centre's theatre. I asked one of the people at the centre if the kids were being trained about H1N1; she said they certainly were.
Now CBCnews.ca reports Swine flu confirmed at Vancouver school. And not just any school--one of our most prestigious private schools. Excerpt:
Vancouver Coastal Health confirmed Tuesday that swine flu has been detected in one student at St. George's School in Vancouver, a boys' elementary school, and other pupils are showing flu-like symptoms.
Dr. Patricia Daly, the health authority's chief medical officer, said it was inevitable that the H1N1 strain of influenza would show up in schools.
"We've certainly had evidence the virus has continued to circulate in Vancouver and B.C. at low levels," she said.
"Over the last number of months, we have some evidence — for example, among kids of this age who went to summer camps — that there were some cases occurring. But it's not cause for concern. We expected that when students went back to school that there might be some transmission in the school setting."
