Via YLE.fi: 1,000 Swine Flu Cases in Rovaniemi; Vaccinations Begin. Excerpt:
The city of Rovaniemi, in Lapland, already has up to a thousand cases of swine flu, according to the Lapland Central Hospital. Meanwhile vaccination campaigns have already begun in hospitals in Seinäjoki and the province of Satakunta.
"Since there are only 60,000 residents in Rovaniemi, 600 cases means one percent of the population and 1,200 means two percent," says Markku Broas, the head of the infectious diseases unit at the Lapland Central Hospital.
Rovaniemi has received 1,500 doses of the vaccine, which will be given to health care personnel next week. The Lapland Central Hospital received another thousand doses. After health care and hospital staff, the next in line for jabs is pregnant women.
Elsewhere in Lapland, suspected cases at hospitals and barracks are on the rise but still haven't reached epidemic proportions.
