Nepalgunj is under the grip of terror after the samples collected from diarrhoea victims tested positive for cholera.
The western region has seen a surge of diarrhoea patients for the last one week.
A medical team comprising health officer Resham Lal Lamichhane, Dr Pramod Khanal, medical technologist Suman Thakur deployed by the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, Kathmandu had sent stool samples to Kathmandu which tested positive for cholera.
As many as 30 patients have died of diarrhoea in different districts, including Dailekh, Jajarkot, Rukum, Humla, Kalikot, Banke and Bardiya of mid-western region to date. More than 50 diarrhoea patients are undergoing treatment at Bheri Zonal Hospital and Nepalgunj Teaching Hospital.
We hope the number of patients visiting the hospitals to go down, said Dr Bimal Dhakal, medical superintendent at Bheri Zonal Hospital, adding, it would take at least one and a half weeks to bring the disease under control.
‘’Cholera strikes rapidly in the summer, so it will take some time to control,’’ said Dhakal.
Banke PABSON Chairman Kamala DC informed that private schools across the district have been closed for three days owing to the epidemic.
