Earlier today I posted an item about new dengue cases in Lahore. Evidently they come at a politically awkward time. Via The Nation: Hospital calls belie govt dengue claim.
LAHORE – Some three dozen suspected patients of the dengue virus have appeared in the recent days. Their appearance in the city’s public and private hospitals has chided the government’s claims that it has taken pre-emptive measures to control the killer mosquito which oozes the virus.
Around two dozen suspected patients of dengue have visited Sir Ganga Ram and Services Hospital in the last 48 hours. Seven more visited Mayo Hospital and two Lahore General Hospital. On the other hand, the senior medical staff at the government-run hospitals have denied the presence of suspected dengue patients.
Meanwhile, a Health Department spokesman said on Sunday that on the recommendations of the Dengue Experts Advisory Group, headed by Prof Faisal Masood Malik, the department has already issued instructions to all public-sector hospitals to carry out NS-1 Test of all the suspected dengue patients to confirm whether or not they carried the virus.
The NS-1 Test of a dengue suspected patient admitted in Mayo Hospital has been conducted, and it was found to be negative, he revealed.
Moreover, a 3-day International Dengue Conference is starting from Monday in collaboration with World Health Organization and Punjab Health Department. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif will inaugurate this international conference. More than 70 medical experts from Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Singapore as well as Asian countries will participate in the international conference.
